Severe Thunderstorms Hit Central US
May 19, 2024 - A series of severe thunderstorms swept across the central United States, causing significant damage and raising the threat of further severe weather. The storms produced strong winds, hail, and tornadoes in Colorado, Kansas, and Oklahoma.
The NWS warned that severe thunderstorms are likely to continue across the Central Plains into the Midwest. Thunderstorm development is expected in parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley to Lower Michigan on Monday afternoon.
According to reports, 13 tornadoes were confirmed and winds reached speeds of up to 100 mph. The storms are expected to continue across the Midwest.
In addition to tornadoes, there is also a threat of flash flooding.
The storms have caused widespread damage, including downed trees and power lines. There have been reports of injuries, but the extent of the damage is still being assessed.
