A monsoon is a seasonal wind pattern that brings heavy rains during part of the year. It occurs when warm, moist air from oceans moves inland, causing intense rainfall, especially in summer. Monsoons are most common in South and Southeast Asia, but they also affect parts of Africa, Australia, and North America.
