Acapulco International Airport has temporarily suspended operations as it works to recover from the devastation.
El Niño is a climate phenomenon characterized by the periodic warming of the sea surface temperature in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean. It is one phase of a larger climate pattern known as the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), which also includes its opposite phase, La Niña. El Niño events occur irregularly, typically every two to seven years, and can last for several months.

During the first 11 days of October, Amazonas state recorded over 2,700 fires, marking the highest number for this month since records began in 1998.
