The Spanish Health Ministry has issued a RED ALERT – the highest risk level – for several provinces in the south, center, and eastern coast. These areas are bracing for an inferno, with some locations potentially reaching a staggering 44°C tomorrow.
Areas on Red Alert: Parts of Andalusia (Sevilla, Guadix & Baza), Costa del Sol, Ronda, Cordoba (Spain), southern Valencia, Albacete, Guadiana, parts of Madrid, Palencia, Zamora, and Salamanca.
Cause: A mass of warm air fueled by days of relentless sunshine and weak winds.
"Iberian Oven" Effect: The Iberian Peninsula essentially traps heat, creating an oven-like environment.
Most at-Risk Areas: Valleys of Guadalquivir, Guadiana, and Ebro (Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha, inland Andalusia).
Expected Highs: 42-44°C for several days in these areas.
Other Affected Areas: Central Spain (Madrid, Zaragoza, south of Lleida) with highs of 40°C.
Yellow and Orange Alerts: Issued for dozens of provinces until at least Wednesday evening.
Cooler Areas: Northern Spain (around 25°C) and coasts (Marbella: 31°C, Alicante: 32°C).
