UK weather in August 2023. How hot will it get this summer?
As extremely high temperatures persist across parts of southern Europe, a current heatwave is making way for another in Italy, Spain, and Greece. The European Space Agency has warned that this heatwave is just the beginning. And Italy, in particular, is facing temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius in many cities.
But what about the UK? We've been wondering when the hot summer weather will return. Well, hold on tight because it's not expected to arrive for several more weeks. June was one of the hottest and driest months on record, but July has been quite the opposite with windy and wet conditions. So, what does the Met Office predict for August?
Simon Partridge, the Met Office forecaster, says that the pattern of changeable weather will continue. It's quite disappointing for the middle of July with nothing particularly warm or sunny on the horizon. However, there's still a hope as the long-range models show that things might turn drier and warmer, but we'll have to wait until mid-August for that to happen.
The weather pattern seems to be blocked and not changing, and that's one reason why southern Europe got so warm. A high-pressure system has been lingering, trapping the heat and causing extreme temperatures there. Unfortunately, for the UK, we're stuck in this more changeable airstream, which means the next couple of weeks won't be too wonderful in terms of consistent warm and sunny weather.
Now, let's talk about August weather. The start of the month might continue with the same conditions we've been experiencing. Lots of showers and more rain than usual. However, as we move towards the middle of August, the likelihood of showers may decrease, and more settled conditions could become somewhat more probable.
In terms of temperatures, we can expect them to be around average for this time of year. Towards the end of August, there's a possibility that things might get a little warmer, which could be a nice treat to finish the month on a brighter note.
So, here's the summary. We'll have to wait a bit longer for the hot summer weather to return. The first half of August is likely to continue with changeable weather, showers, and above-average rainfall. But don't be upset. As we approach the middle of the month, things may start to settle down a bit, and temperatures could gradually become a bit warmer. Keep an eye on the latest forecasts for updates and prepare for a mixed August weather in the UK.
