Severe disruptions unfolded across the UK as icy blasts and heavy snowfall wreaked havoc on Sunday. Approximately 7,000 homes and businesses in Cumbria faced power outages as snow-laden trees collapsed, leaving hundreds of motorists stranded. Electricity North West reported that, by evening, power had been restored to most, with 1,500 still awaiting reconnection.

Access remains a major challenge for recovery efforts, and even specialized 4x4 vehicles are unable to reach some sites. Repair equipment is being transported on foot in certain locations.

The Lake District witnessed up to 3ft of snow on Saturday, leading to dramatic rescues of drivers trapped in their cars. The surge in day-trippers added complexity to the situation.

As Monday approaches, further disruptions are anticipated in parts of the UK due to continued snow and ice. The Met Office issued yellow weather warnings for snow in north Wales, the West Midlands, and northern England, along with warnings for snow and ice in the central-eastern half of Scotland.
