Solar Activity Reaches Very High Levels, G3-G4 Geomagnetic Storms Possible this Week
Get ready for a spectacular show in the skies! Multiple Earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) have been detected, potentially triggering a significant geomagnetic storm on July 30, with warnings of G3-Strong to G4-Severe storms possible.
According to NASA's Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC), the solar activity has been at very high levels over the past 24 hours, with multiple solar flares and CMEs detected. The latest M9.9 flare from Active Region 3766 on July 28 is expected to produce another Earth-directed CME.
What’s Ahead?
- G1-Minor to G2-Moderate geomagnetic storms possible late July 29 into early July 30
- G3-Strong to G4-Severe storms possible on July 30, with significant aurora activity expected
- Aurora borealis (Northern Lights) visible in the U.S. and Canada on July 30 and 31
Radio Frequency Interference
The 10cm Radio Burst associated with the M9.9 flare may cause interference for sensitive receivers, including radar, GPS, and satellite communications, particularly over East Asia and the Pacific Ocean.
Stay Alert!
Keep an eye on the skies for what could be a rare and spectacular display of the Northern Lights. If you're in the path of the aurora, grab your camera and get ready for a celestial show!
