Storm Daniel has unleashed unprecedented rainfall across North Africa in the past week.

This weather event has left a trail of destruction in its wake, with dire consequences. In Libya, the aftermath of Storm Daniel has been particularly catastrophic. It's estimated that around 2,000 people have tragically lost their lives, and an additional 10,000 individuals are reported as missing.

The torrential rain brought by this storm caused two dams in Libya's northeast to collapse, resulting in a devastating overflow of water into already flooded areas.

The head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies delegation in Libya, expressed the gravity of the situation, stating that the death toll is huge, and around 10,000 are reported missing.

One of the hardest-hit areas is the eastern city of Derna, where as many as 6,000 people are unaccounted for.

This catastrophic flooding has affected multiple cities in the country's northeast, which borders the Mediterranean Sea. The origins of this devastating weather event trace back to a powerful low-pressure system that initially caused catastrophic flooding in Greece the previous week. This system then moved into the Mediterranean, where it transformed into a tropical-like cyclone.
