Taiwan's Strongest Earthquake in 25 Years
Taiwan recently experienced its strongest earthquake in 25 years, resulting in casualties and significant damage across the island.
The earthquake, with magnitudes ranging from 7.2 to 7.4, struck near the tourist city of Hualien on Taiwan's eastern coast.
The quake caused building collapses, power outages, and landslides, leading to nine fatalities and at least 800 injuries.
Initial tsunami warnings were issued for southern Japan and the Philippines, but these were later lifted.
Despite Taiwan's advanced earthquake alert system, no warnings were provided before the quake.
This event marks Taiwan's strongest earthquake since 1999, when a 7.6-magnitude quake struck south of Taipei.
The Japan Meteorological Agency lifted all tsunami advisories, with only minor waves detected on Yonaguni Island.
Despite the devastation, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center confirmed that the tsunami threat had passed.
